Why were Jesus and Muhammed men?

I know women were suppressed back then and many Christians say that God became a man in order to help women gain status, rank, or whatever you'd like to call it (same goes for Muslims who say that God intended to do the same through Mohammed). I mean, if God could do anything, why didn’t God opt to incarnate itself as a very charismatic and influential woman who’d undo all the inequality that has existed among the es? Something like Oprah, I mean, I am not a fan or anything, but she has influenced a great number of people’s perspectives on a wide range of things and broken down some social barriers (at least in Western culture), something many people wouldn’t have considered a possibility a number of years back.
