Should I really being worrying about the swine flu, and is it really that bad?

Hi I am 23 years old and ever since I have been back to school, all I can hear about is the swine flu. Yes, I know it has put many healthy kids in the hosipital, but why? Doctors have medicine to help get rid of it, and they have testing that can give you back your results in like an hour, so why is everyone freaking out? I myself have not gotten the swine flu vaccine because it has not been approved by the FDA, Im just really confused because some of the media is making it seem like the world is coming to an end, while some doctors are saying that it has a 1% that people have of dieing from the swine flu, what should I believe?
