Was Bangladesh a part of India?

When the British ruled the Indian Empire, there was no Bangladesh or Pakistan. After 1947, India was split into 3 portions - India, Pakistan and East Pakistan (now called Bangladesh). In 1972, India and Pakistan had a war. India conqured Pakistan and gave the country to the local people, who named their country Bangladesh.
