My Screen Resolution Will Not Go High Enough ?

when i try to change my screen resolution it will only go up to 1280x800. How can i exceed this so i can view my screen at 1280x1024 ? i am using an advent 5421 laptop and i have windows 7 32 bit and a SiS GVA graphics card
