Guys...why do you ignore girls once you know they have feelings for you?

Here's the thing......I admitted months ago to this guy that i liked him. He thought about it seriously but ended up getting cold feet and didnt make a go of the relationship. I let it go but still really do have feelings for him. He knows this and he constantly stares at me and seems as though he wants to say something but never can quite manage it! He acts weird and ignores me and I am totally confused. I cant make my mind up whether he just doesnt want to know and cant handle that or whether he does want to do something about things and is scared to get involved. He has been hurt in the past and i think that has made him wary of what might just turn into a serious, loving relationship. Its battering my head. I just want him to want me back and us live happily ever after.
